| STUART OWEN - Bass Stuart works for a major computer company and plays golf and football at weekends. He was the drummer in a band at school, so he should really keep better time! Stuart has been singing Barbershop since 1991. He is married to Helen and they have two children, Christopher and Katie. Helen also sings barbershop with the LABBS quartet champions ‘Finesse’. Stuart’s Mum and Dad are also in choruses and his mum has a quartet gold medal which she won with Tapestry, the 1991 LABBS champions. When Stuart joined his local chorus, the "Hemel Hempstead Highwaymen" he quickly became involved with the presentation team and wasted no time forming his first quartet, "Classified". In 1993, Nickelodeon, in the guise of the Disneyland Paris’ ‘Mainstreet Quartet’, offered Stuart the job of bass which he accepted with gusto! Stuart sang at the Magic Kingdom for six months. For most of that time he shared an apartment with Steve, the tenor, so he really did eat, breath and sleep barbershop! At the end of his ‘tour’ with Nickelodeon, Stuart returned to England and took up where he had left off with ‘The Highwaymen”, becoming choreographer, Bass Section Leader and Uniform Committee Chairman and then also Musical Director! Stuart has sung in quartets whenever possible and was Bass in ‘Friends & Neighbours’ for 3 years. This quartet really was appropriately named as all four were from the same village and enjoyed entertaining and Drinking whenever they could. In 1999 Stuart felt that it was time for a change, so he joined the 1999/2002/2004/2006 BABS Gold medallists chorus, "The Cambridge Chord Company" where Tony & Geoff were already members. In 2000 Stuart started a quartet called Prime Time, in which he was reunited with the Tenor from his 'Disney Days' and after 4 years of hard work, his ultimate goal was achieved... After two Bronze medals, Stuart's national quartet Gold medal came in 2004. Not only is Stuart a great Bass singer but he brings to the quartet, the amazing ability to quote, verbatim, the script to the original Star Wars film! |
